Dio J., MS, OTR/L, Occupational Therapist
Dio earned his Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University and brings a diverse range of pediatric, neurodivergent affirming, relationship based, family-centered, and trauma informed experiences to his practice. His professional experiences include supporting children with various individual strengths, learning styles, and developmental needs across school, community, and clinical settings.
During his time at Western Michigan University Children’s Trauma Assessment Center, he supported children and families impacted by trauma through relationship based, play centered, and trauma informed approaches. These experiences helped shape his belief that meaningful relationships are the foundation for growth, learning, and participation. Through his work with immigrant and refugee families at Bethany Christian Services, Dio gained valuable experience supporting children and caregivers through complex life experiences with compassion, respect, and cultural humility. He has also supported children in school settings and adults in neurological, rehabilitation, and mental health settings, gaining valuable experience working with individuals of all ages and abilities.
Since completing his graduate training, Dio has focused on pediatric occupational therapy, providing both Early Intervention and clinic-based services. He is passionate about using child-led, relationship-based approaches inspired by DIR/Floortime principles to support regulation, engagement, communication, play, and participation in everyday activities. Dio values partnering closely with families, recognizing each child’s unique strengths, and creating supportive environments where children can build confidence, develop meaningful connections, and thrive in their daily lives.
Outside of the clinic, Dio enjoys spending time with his son and daughter, exploring the outdoors, exercising, playing the drums, listening to music, and spending time with his German Shepherd. He is committed to lifelong learning and continually seeks opportunities to grow professionally to better serve the children and families in his care.
